Ngano Dzedu

“Ngano dzedu” means our stories.
In Shona, ngano are the stories told in the evening — the ones that carry a lesson, a lineage, a way of being. They are not decoration. They are how a thing is passed on.
We named a clothing brand after them because we think clothing works the same way. What you put on in the morning says something about who you are and where you come from, whether you intended it to or not.
We believe in clothing that tells a story — your story — and makes you feel confident, covered and completely you.
How it began
Ngano Dzedu began with a wardrobe problem and a word.
The problem was one many women know: wanting to dress modestly and wanting to dress well, and being asked to choose. Modest clothing was available, but too much of it was shapeless, or cheaply made, or clearly designed by someone who had never had to wear it to work on a Monday and to church on a Sunday.
The word was ngano — the stories told in the evening, the ones that carry a lesson and a lineage. Ngano dzedu: our stories. It felt right, because the wardrobe problem was never really about cloth. It was about whether you get to look like yourself.
So we started making the pieces we could not find. A modest maxi with a defined waist and a sleeve with some generosity in it. Cream piping down every vertical seam, because a detail that small tells you someone was paying attention. Fabric chosen to breathe in African heat and still hold a press.
Chapter 01 is called Mavambo — beginnings. It is deliberately a first sentence rather than a full statement. There is more to come, and we would like you to be there for it.
